In a recent episode of The Campaign Podcast, Bountiful Cow CEO, Adam Foley warned AdLand of the dangers of letting newsbrands fall through the cracks as journalism remains a tumultuous space.

In the episode titled ‘Do newsbrands matter to advertisers?’, Foley sang the praises of The News Alliance, a group made up of representatives from news media which has come together across all areas to highlight the importance of news media for a flourishing commercial ecosystem.

The breadth of membership, Foley says, “shows the strength of feeling about the issue.”

He stressed the sentiments being felt across news media.

“We are seeing the best of newsbrands at the moment, but the conversations I am having with newsbrands… it remains a really tough market. Advertisers are creating a massive issue for our industry and society as a whole.”

So, what can be done?

Foley recommends:

  1. Speak up and champion the importance of trusted journalism. It is critical.
  2. Invest into news environments, it works
  3. Reconsider what brand safety actually means
  4. Review blocklists
